

Hakka history states that their ancestors originated from Shāndōng (山东) or Shānxī (山西) provinces in northern China. The Hakka people have a long history of migration. The name of the language, 客家话 - (hak 7ga 1wa 3 or kèjiāhuà in Mandarin) means 'guest language'. The total number of Hakka speakers is roughly 43 million. There are also significant communities of Hakka speakers in such countries as the USA, French Guiana, Mauritius and the UK. It is also advisable to read the Benchmark Information and Rubric Guide above if you want information about the skills you need to demonstrate to achieve a certain proficiency level.Hakka is a variety of Chinese spoken in south eastern China, parts of Taiwan and in the New Territories of Hong Kong. This allows students to demonstrate their actual proficiency level in the language. The exam is computer-adaptive, meaning that the difficulty level of each question automatically adapts to each student's level, up or down, as the student progresses through the exam. Students may prepare by reviewing any resources aligned to the standards for interpretive communication and presentational communication. Please see the TEKS for LOTE for Level I through Level IV. The exam is aligned to the ACTFL proficiency guidelines, which also align to the LOTE course expectations in the TEKS.
